The Bloomberg administration plans to merge the city’s Department of Juvenile Justice into its child welfare agency, signaling a more therapeutic approach toward delinquency that will send fewer of the city’s troubled teenagers to jail.

This story comes from a small town outside of Jefferson City, MO. It's a horrible story of murder involving a female teen. There is a lot of discussion as to the fate of this youth - with two possible roads/outcomes ahead - the juvenile justice system or prison. Whatever the decision - the mindset should be focused on how to prevent something like this from happening again. Rehab? With two previous incidents of attempted suicide - this story has the small community of St Martins, MO and the country paying attention.

The U.S. Department of Justice released a report finding that the routine use of force at four New York juvenile detention centers was a violation of the constitutional rights of the children imprisoned there.  Read the rest of the report here.
