Healthcare and Human Services April Review - INPUT

Posted by: George Ritacco on 5/12/2010

The state and local health care and human services market was dominated by health information technology (HIT) headlines throughout the month of April. Once the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) stimulus funding was released, there was a chain reaction among states to get activities underway in an effort to meet aggressive funding timelines. A number of states spent this past month fleshing out strategic and operational plans, while some states took to the streets with procurements for vendor assistance.

According to Kristina Mullholand at INPUT - States will continue to march forward at a rapid pace with HIE planning activities and continue to seek vendor support. While there is no definitive market leader just yet, dominant players will begin to emerge as state HIE contracts are awarded. Broadband companies and traditionally Medicaid-focused companies are beginning to make a play at HIE projects. In addition, it is expected that there will be an increase in partnerships and even acquisitions of small, privately held companies.
