The disease of addiction is a serious health concern affecting more than 12 million women annually. Among the challenges facing an addicted woman, especially one who is either considering seeking treatment or attempting to maintain sobriety, are those that come with being a mother, partner, and caregiver.
Women with children face a greater stigma, both real and perceived, and the fear of this may prevent asking for help. Financial barriers to treatment and maintenance of sobriety exist on many levels, especially for single mothers, and may lead these women back into potentially unhealthy situations.
Abba House is a 12-month minimum residential ministry for women with emotional wounding. Located in the foothills of North Georgia Appalachians, Abba has been doing fantastic things for thier clients and the famliies they serve since 1985.
Abba House offers a special program where after an initial period, the mother begins making personal progress in growth and healing, their children can join their mother in the program.
Recently, the GVT team has been working with Abba House to implement their first ever web-based, case management solution - a version of FAMCare tailored to their client needs. Abba is growing and they are in the process of expanding their facilities and building a state-of-the-art center. They'll be breaking ground later this year. You can read more here.
